 The AlienBees B1600 and B800s are powerful, self-contained studio flash unit, producing 640 true wattseconds and 800 and 1600 effective wattseconds of power, with 28,000 lumenseconds of output. The power is independently adjustable over a stepless 5 f-stop range from Full down to 1/32nd of the total power, in whole f-stop increments, and everywhere in between. This flashpower is independently adjusted on the back control panel, with a slide fader that shows marked f-stop increments. Utilizing advanced durability flash capacitors, coupled with axial-flow thermodynamics, the B1600 minimizes heat build-up, has increased overall durability, and shorter flash durations.

The B1600 / B800 lets you see what you’re getting
With precision voltage regulated circuits supplying consistent output, the B1600 boasts true "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" modeling lamp accuracy. The modeling lamp can be set to full brightness, turned completely off, or set to track the power changes. Furthermore, the standard 100 watt modeling lamp may be used as a recycle indicator, turning itself off when the unit is recycling, and coming back on to let you know when th
e unit is fully recycled and you are ready to shoot again.
Don't be bothered with excessive wiring
The B1600 / B800 has a built-in slave tripper, disconnected by plugging in the sync cord, to allow wireless firing where the unit will fire whenever it "sees" a flash from another source. It will automatically dump the excess power, removing the excess charge when the flashpower is adjusted from a higher to a lower setting.

Beauty Dish: 22-inch Pan Reflector
The 22R is our 22-inch diameter (7 inches in depth) pan reflector, also known as a "Beauty Dish" With a white interior and black exterior, the 22R has an internal light shield that allows bounce-only lighting, with moderate focusing. This provides high output with moderate feathering, making it a perfect soft light source for portraits. Additionally, the 22R warms the skin tones for a pleasing effect. The 22R has a 160º beam spread, making it an excellent choice when you need a soft, even light source that can cover a large area.
How does the beauty dish compare to a softbox? As the beauty dish is smaller, it will result in less-soft shadows because of its smaller size. It will also provide moderate round catch lights in the eyes, where a softbox will yield larger rectangular catch lights. The principle of the beauty dish is that pros have found the smaller size round catch lights can produce a sharper looking portrait - especially on younger models with good skin. In comparison, a larger softbox will produce a softer look that is good for older models where the skin irregularities need to be less emphasized.
For even softer results with the 22R, the DS22R diffusion sock (sold separately) easily slips over the rim of the 22R. The DS22R is a translucent white sock that diffuses the output of the 22-inch reflector, for an extremely soft source.
